Job description

About Sunrise Group

Sunrise Group is building the future of sleep health by combining breakthrough technology with expert care. We started in 2015 with a straightforward idea: sleep diagnosis should happen in the comfort of your own home, not in a hospital. To make that possible, we created a first-of-its-kind chin sensor, carefully validated through clinical research, reviewed by leading sleep experts, and cleared by the FDA.

Since then, Sunrise Group has grown from a single innovation into a complete sleep health company. We now design advanced diagnostic and treatment solutions, and we deliver care directly to patients through Dreem Health, our digital sleep clinic. By serving patients in all 50 states with reimbursed care, we are making sleep treatment more accessible, more personal, and much simpler than it has ever been.

Sunrise (Dreem Health) is a ~170-person digital health company building the best online sleep clinic. We help patients get diagnosed and treated for sleep apnea entirely from home: a medically certified at-home sleep test, teleconsultations with sleep physicians, and physician-supervised treatment and follow-up. Our engineering team builds the products that make this possible, from patient-facing web apps to the clinical tools our care teams use every day.

You will join at a moment where the engineering organization is scaling and needs a second Engineering Manager. You will lead 6 to 10 engineers across 2 to 3 product squads, reporting directly to the CTO. You own your squads: the people, the staffing, and the delivery, and you share product outcomes with your Product counterparts. Each squad has a Tech Lead who owns technical feasibility and task breakdown, supported by a transverse Principal Engineer. You are a technical manager: you stay close enough to the code and the designs to ask the right questions, push great engineering, and help your squads keep raising the bar.

What you will do

  • Lead and develop a team of 6 to 10 engineers across 2 to 3 product squads. Run 1:1s, give honest feedback, own performance and promotion decisions, and build development plans against our engineering ladder
  • Own delivery for your squads: what gets committed, who works on what, and whether it lands. Challenge scope and dates with Product, with an explicit mandate to refuse commitments the team cannot sustainably meet
  • Protect long-term velocity: own the capacity allocation for tech health and platform quality
  • Hire: partner with Talent Acquisition to source, interview, and close engineers. Run technical interviews yourself and hold the hiring bar.
  • Raise the technical bar: stay close to the code and designs where it matters most (high-risk changes, new patterns, design docs, review quality), using AI tooling to navigate the codebase efficiently, and help your squads turn good engineering into great engineering.
  • Work closely with Tech Leads and the Principal Engineer, who own technical feasibility and task breakdown in their scope. Challenge them on ambition and approach, unblock them, and escalate structural risks early
  • Champion modern, AI-augmented engineering practices and continuous improvement of how the team works
  • Stay deeply immersed in product and business context: direct stakeholder relationships, presence in squad rituals, and manage cross-squad dependencies

What you will bring

  • At least 3 years managing software engineers in a dedicated management role
  • 5+ years as a software engineer before moving into management, including senior-level ownership of production systems
  • Track record of shipping and operating production web products, with enough technical depth to challenge designs and estimates credibly (our stack: React, Django, GCP)
  • Experience partnering closely with Product and Design in an empowered-squad model
  • Hands-on with AI-assisted engineering tooling, and opinionated about where it helps and where it does not
  • Fluent English (working language); French is a plus
  • Genuine interest in sleep, health, and helping people better understand and improve their well-being

Dreem Health / Sunrise is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We welcome people of all backgrounds and are committed to building a workplace where everyone feels included and respected. We do not tolerate discrimination or harassment of any kind.
