How To MANAGE a Small Law Firm (HTM) helps solo and small law firm owners build more profitable, financially sound businesses.

We’re looking for a hands-on CFO & Business Advisor to serve as the financial leader and trusted advisor to approximately 30 law firm clients. You’ll work directly with owners to improve pricing, margins, cash flow, and profitability while helping them make smarter decisions about hiring and growth.

HTM provides the clients, systems, and infrastructure. You focus on financial leadership and advising business owners—no prospecting, cold calling, or business development required.

This is a full-time W-2 position, not a 1099 consulting engagement or independent practice.

We’re looking for candidates with 8+ years of finance leadership experience advising or leading finance for small and midsized businesses, generally with $1M–$35M+ in revenue. You must also have direct experience managing multiple client relationships simultaneously.

Relevant backgrounds may include CFO, Fractional CFO, Outsourced CFO, Virtual CFO, or similar financial leadership roles.

This is a hands-on position. You must personally review financial statements, identify errors and inconsistencies, build financial models, develop forecasts, and turn financial data into actionable business strategies.

This is not a fit for candidates whose experience is primarily bookkeeping, month-end close, traditional controllership, or managing a finance team without personally performing the analysis and modeling. Candidates with primarily enterprise finance experience and limited SMB advisory experience are also unlikely to be a fit.

• Serve as the financial leader and business advisor for approximately 30 law firms.
• Review financial statements, investigate discrepancies, and identify opportunities.
• Build financial models, budgets, forecasts, cash flow plans, and KPI dashboards.
• Help owners improve pricing, margins, cash flow, and profitability.
• Advise on hiring, growth, and other important business decisions.
• Translate financial information into clear, practical recommendations owners can act on.

• 8+ years of finance leadership experience advising or leading finance for small and midsized businesses, generally in the $1M–$35M+ revenue range.
• Experience managing multiple client relationships simultaneously.
• A track record of working directly with business owners, founders, or senior leadership teams.
• Strong hands-on financial analysis, modeling, forecasting, budgeting, and cash flow management skills.
• Examples of helping businesses improve profitability, pricing, margins, or financial performance.
• The ability to explain financial concepts clearly and provide practical business advice.
• A bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional leadership experience.
• Willingness to complete a short, hands-on working session during the interview process.

Legal industry experience is not required.

• $182,000+ OTE: $110,000 base salary plus performance compensation.
