Full stack roles carry a feature from database to interface. In practice that means fewer handoffs and broader ownership, and it is the most common shape of engineering role at companies under about fifty people.
Startups and small product teams hire this way almost exclusively, because one person shipping end to end beats two people coordinating. Agencies and consultancies do too.
Find out where the balance actually sits — "full stack" often means eighty per cent one side. Ask what the team does about the parts nobody enjoys: migrations, on-call, and the deployment pipeline.
