Job description
Location: Remote (International applicants welcome, including LatAm and S/SE Asia)
Job Type: Contract
About Folia Materials:
Folia Materials is an award-winning cleantech startup using advanced paper coating technology as our platform super material. Folia’s paper microwave reheat packaging improves microwave food quality and replaces plastic packaging.
About the Role
We are looking for a mid-career Packaging Engineer / Industrial Paper Packaging Designer with deep technical expertise in structural paper packaging design.
We need a structural packaging specialist for Design for Manufacturing (DFM). This is not a branding or graphic design role, only physical / structural packaging design. You will create production-ready structural CAD files and parametric designs, while on-site teams handle manual prototype cutting and physical assembly at our facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Structural Design & CAD: Create precise, production-ready structural designs, dielines, and parametric models for paperboard and corrugated packaging using ArtiosCAD.
- Design for Manufacturing (DFM): Ensure designs optimize material yield, minimize waste, maximize structural integrity, and account for automated production constraints.
- Technical Documentation: Produce standard operating procedures, technical spec sheets, fold sequences, and assembly guides for production and sample teams.
- Remote Collaboration: Coordinate asynchronously with product managers, production teams, and on-site staff executing physical die-cutting and assembly.
Requirements
- ArtiosCAD Mastery: Proven experience drafting and outputting dielines in ArtiosCAD (non-negotiable).
- Paper & Corrugated Expertise: Strong technical understanding of paperboard, folding cartons, corrugated flutes, grain direction, and board grades.
- Engineering Mindset: Strong background in Industrial Design, Packaging Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Mid-Career Experience: 3 -7+ years of hands-on structural packaging design experience for manufacturing environments.
- Remote-Ready: Excellent written/verbal communication skills for clear asynchronous technical handoffs.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience with 3D visualization or rendering tools (e.g., Studio, SolidWorks, or Rhino).
- Familiarity with industrial paper packaging standards (e.g. FEFCO, ECMA).
- Previous experience collaborating with remote/international teams across time zones.
